Matt Hight
Macon, NC
Local pork producer Matt Hight is a twenty-something farmer with a long history of family farming. His family raised hogs on pasture until 1996 when pork prices dropped precipitously to eight cents a pound. “We took a break from raising pigs for ten years and decided to try it again,” he says. “Now we run a twenty-sow farrow-to-finish operation exclusively on pasture.”
Hight Farm is one of the pasture-raised pork producers that Panzanella and Weaver Street Market buy from as part of their continued commitment to provide quality local meats. The farm is a member of the North Carolina Natural Hog Growers Association and is supported by NC Choices as part of a network of pasture-based animal producers that don’t use antibiotics or synthetic hormones.
Matt says, “I’ve been farming my whole life and take pride in continuing a farming tradition that has been in the family for generations.”
